These features are common accents in high traffic common areas, as found in residences, commercial centres, and civic or institutional sites. The effect of a cascading feature varies depending on its spatial position: placed at an entrance, it adds a sense of grandeur and luxury; paired along a staircase or walkway, it draws the eye and leads the step of those passing through.
With its template in nature, the design of cascading features is heavily shaped by the surrounding landscape. Cascades can be subtly integrated into a green space, or used to emanate white noise in a busy urban setting.
