Architectural Water Feature Design

 Cascading

Falling for Water.

Cascading water features are perfect for adding a touch of drama and flair, and are one of the most popular features in Vincent Helton’s arsenal. Inspired by nature and fleshed out with artistic style, the tumbling motion of waterfalls and watercourses brings power and majesty to any site or space.

These features are common accents in high traffic common areas, as found in residences, commercial centres, and civic or institutional sites. The effect of a cascading feature varies depending on its spatial position: placed at an entrance, it adds a sense of grandeur and luxury; paired along a staircase or walkway, it draws the eye and leads the step of those passing through.

With its template in nature, the design of cascading features is heavily shaped by the surrounding landscape. Cascades can be subtly integrated into a green space, or used to emanate white noise in a busy urban setting. Stepped dimensions, finishes, types of materials, and designed water flows greatly influence the final effect as well. The creative use of uplighting or non-traditional materials also lends itself to some spectacular design variations.
