olympic cauldron | vancouver, bC

An icon of the 2010 Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver, the Olympic Cauldron sits within a public plaza over the Vancouver Convention Centre and was the official host venue of the Media Centre for the Games.

In order to create a permanent home for the Cauldron after the Olympic Games, the base of the structure was transformed into a reflective pool and fountain. At 32 feet tall the Cauldron is a key attraction for visitors and locals and required an aesthetically sensitive solution to prevent climbing of the structure or damage to the glass panels.

The reflective pool surrounds the Cauldron, effectively protecting it while adding a secondary point of interest for the 364 days a year when the cauldron is not lit.
